Canada Geese

Canada Geese

This post is all about these Geese at Harvest time, so be warned…!!

The beautiful sounds of the Canada Geese as they fly over the cottage to the spent grain during the harvest at this time of year brings immense joy to my heart!!

It starts early dawn as they fly from their estuary home, sometimes flying back in the afternoon then returning early evening finally heading back home around 9 or 10 in the evenings…when the Harvest Moon was full they waited till about 9 pm till they headed back to the fields for their late feed, was beautiful seeing them fly past a huge rising red Moon, but just couldn’t get a good enough shot as they were too quick and too far away!!

I will miss their evocative honking calls… as soon they will just go back to feeding around the Estuary were they live. Am so blessed that my cottage is right on their fly past route, close to the fields were they feed, they fly so low that the power and sound of their wing beats and calls stirs the soul, and makes you want to be flying with them!

And there they go…

It was a wonderful being right there with them so close as they readied for take off.. The powerful sound of their wing beats as they flew over my head! and their calls getting louder and louder as they took off… then all quiet with just the leader calling out as they flew past.

Then it was time to get on my bike and head home, filled with heady joy at seeing all of this. A couple of days later I cycled up to the fields around 5ish and waited for them to head over to feed on the spent grain from the Harvest…was glad I did as was not disappointed at the spectacle. Although I was quite a distance away, think I managed to get some good shots. I love the one of the Crow totally unaware that a flock of about three hundred geese are about to land right where he is!!

Coming in to land at their fav restaurant..and a Seagull thinking I can fly as fast….yeah right..

Was thrilling watching all this activity going on, but I loved the next shot…the Crow has now landed in the field and appears to be totally unaware that about 300 Geese are about to land right where he is!!!

Full brakes on as he lands..just love the shapes and their beauty.

I’ll finish off this post with a favorite and evocative shot. Was one of their last flights over the cottage for this Autumn. The sky was a beautiful pale peach as they flew over in the beautiful dusk light.

So until next Autumn and Harvest I’ll miss their soul stirring calls and low flights over the cottage, till then on a sunny Winters day I’ll get on my bike camera in hand and come and find you :)

Well I hope you have enjoyed seeing these pictures as much as I have loved taking them and being amongst all this beauty, and sharing it with you.

Much love…be happy, stay safe, and spread the love :)
